Pete and Sharon are now great grandparents themselves so it was lovely retrace their family history with them #belfast

We also visited St Peter's Cathedral were some of Pete's ancestors were baptised and had a leisurely walk around Dunville Park which would have been the playground for his 14 year old grandfather and other relatives who lived nearby. Some were weavers and likely worked in Conway Mill

We started at @crownliquorsaloon and finished at @commonmarketbelfast just in time for the rugby. These are just some of the places we visited enroute.

These pubs are historically and often architecturally significant. They are survivors of a bygone age and some of these pubs have been serving liquor since Belfast was a village. They have been witness to all of the city's significant events and the many highs and lows.

It is 40 meters in length, and it is built into the roof and is illuminated at night, creating a beacon across Belfast (250 ft. above street level). The base protrudes through a glass platform in the Cathedral's roof and visitors can look up to the heavens from the nave inside the Cathedral.

Inspiring Hope

“The Spire of Hope” on St Anne's Cathedral otherwise was manufactured in Zurich, Switzerland, from stainless steel and installed on September 11th, 2007 (initially designed to mark the 100 year centenary). It is now a well-known signature in the Belfast skyline.

Eventually the private Quays were essentially 'nationalised' at a local level, being taken over by Belfast's Ballast Board (🔁Belfast Harbour Commissioners) who decided the development of the port couldn't be left to private interests alone. Nearby Tomb Street is named after the Tomb family #belfast

It is situated at Donegall Quay which was the first quay in Belfast, built by the Tomb family who were wealthy Belfast industrialists. It was one of the busiest private quays on the River Lagan for the loading and unloading of cargo from Ships, Lighters and Gabbards.
