There's an undeniable naivety to her worldview, an unwillingness to accept that, as Heather puts it, "suffering is a fact of life, you either learn how to deal with that or you go under." I think the most selfish part of her motives is this refusal to accept hardship, even if she won't admit it.

An entry in her diary reads "I read A Modern History of Refugees and Young Slaves: Child Exploitation. I don't want to be a mere bystander in this world. I can't do anything now though, and that's what's hard."

For members of The Order like Dahlia and Leonard, the birth of God is a kind of rapture where only those who follow their dogma will be saved. In the case of Claudia however, her motivations aren't tinged with this kind of elitist mentality, as she believes that *everyone* should be saved.

It’s a little hard to talk about Claudia without also talking about Heather, but I think it’s at least worth touching on her perspective, especially compared to Dahlia from the original Silent Hill. The differences between their methods and mentalities are undeniably important in SH3’s story.

Putting that aside though, it’s his arrogance and self assured nature that also gets him killed, being stupid enough to believe Claudia won’t kill him, and that the seal of Metatron is their ace in the hole so to speak. And with that, I think it’s time to talk about Claudia (:

Then of course there’s the line he’s most known for: “Monsters? They looked like monsters to you?” It’s obviously become iconic and one of the most well known lines, even by people who aren’t fans of the series. It’s a comment that makes you reconsider the game, and even the series as a whole.

I think he really says it best in the motel conversation, “what you call faith is nothing more than a child crying out for love”. It’s implied he knows her history based on the comment about remembering her childhood abuse and even that they may have grown up together in the town.

Took a lil break from this but now that I’ve got some time, let’s talk about *this motherfucker*. Vincent plays a really interesting role in SH3 and he’s got a hell of a lot more impact on the game than Kaufmann, his counterpart in the original Silent Hill.

I'm getting fucked by General Scales from the genre defining, award winning 2002 action adventure game Star Fox Adventures. He is, as you can see, a hunky boy

Douglas is admittedly the least fleshed out of the main four, but not a bad character. He’s really an innocent bystander who gets wrapped up in something he shouldn’t have had to be involved with, but still chooses to help Heather, much like Cybil did with Harry. He’s also a very tragic figure.

Honestly I don’t have too much to say about the actual gameplay but it does feel more refined and even fun than 1 and 2. I’ve always enjoyed how Heather’s arsenal is composed of some really odd stuff she just stumbled upon?? It’s something in the other games too, but these feel like the best to me.

This also carries over to enemy design, boasting some of the best critters in the franchise, I’d say really only rivaled by 4. They match the qualities of their environments extremely well and I see this as some of Masahiro Ito’s best beasties by far. The split head dog is a longtime favorite (:

Just as a few examples, this is the kind of stuff I’m talking about, it’s striking, surreal and strange; everything I feel Silent Hill *should* be. From the mall to Brookhaven Hospital to the Lakeside Amusement Park, these are some of the best locations in the series.

For me, 3 just excels in almost every avenue in a way I think is so memorable, impactful, and genuinely relatable, especially if you happen to be a queer person. I know there’s plenty to be said about how it depicts the experience of being a teen girl, but I think there’s absolutely queerness here.
November 25, 2024 at 12:06 AM
And it’s not to say that I don’t love 2 or consider it to be a great game in its own right, but to be honest I’ve always felt more of a connection with 3 and even 4 than I do with 2. Tbh I might do a thread about 4 sometime because I think it’s much better than people give it credit for.

It’s Silent Hill 3 time, gamers!! I got some stuff to say about little number

There are some that also feel like someone just didn't think through how difficult they would be to the extent that they feel almost impossible. For instance, Hartman has a great design but he's truly the Bed of Chaos of Control. They were made for each other and I wish them the absolute worst!!!!
November 19, 2024 at 1:34 AM
The other biggest issue with Control’s combat is, and I’m gonna be blunt here, most of the bosses are downright awful. Most of them feel like they have one too many things going on and it makes them difficult in a way that starts to get old very fast.
November 19, 2024 at 1:03 AM
Speaking of eldritch horrors, it’s worth acknowledging that this is the only game of these four which isn’t explicitly a horror game, although Control is certainly *about* horror. It’s even how Jesse describes the hiss upon first encountering it, “That was horror”
November 18, 2024 at 10:00 PM
So I’m not exaggerating when I say that Control feels like someone reached into my brain, took all my favorite shit out and made it into a game. I know Alan Wake (1 & 2) are kinda seen as Remedy’s biggest hits, but I really think Control is on another level.
