This brings to mind this story from last week in my home state. National media had been reporting on what was an egregious overreach by a local sheriff. As soon as it made the local (relatively speaking) news, he dropped the charges the next day. He felt no pressure from national coverage.

Hardcore baseball fans may be fine with these teams but Fox will hate them.

Cubs fan. Dislike. Go American League team in the World Series!

During these postseason games watching my Cubs, my biggest issue with the announcers is their adherence to narratives...they seem to go all-in, fawningly, on whichever side has the momentum at that moment. When it's the other team, you notice it more, of course.

Your specific niche of baseball+politics is actually better served by a Bluesky presence, I'm sure. Sports has kept me on the old site, but I only look at my lists in chrono order, I avoid any algorithms. I just appreciate mainstream sports people who at least cross-post here. It's virtue signaling.

Yeah, it seems about the right time for the Second Coming.

I came prepared to disagree, but the ending thesis of not solving a perception problem with policy is valid. Polling on immigration is worthless, as it just reflects the flavor of the month (caravans! crime! cruel deportations!). But if liberals offered "solutions" maybe we wouldn't be outflanked?

"We posted a novelty story but it came true oops"

This was in jest but wow.

I also just started getting it...my youngest daughter just turned 27.

I'm a native Tennessean, now Kentuckian: the limestone underneath this area makes this...even more dubious than I would usually figure the technology to be. 0% chance it gets finished.

This moment in history is defined by the fact that one side has figured out it can lie egregiously and set the rules of engagement, then lie more to move the goalposts dramatically in their favor. Humans have always been this gullible, but they haven't always had the unfettered internet.

I generally think purple and orange go well together but this will ruin it for me.
