I ended up really liking it by the end. But was really wondering if he was going to be too much the first couple of scenes.

The playoffs are a crapshoot. You don’t change your perception of a team because of how they played over the course of two days. The Rangers and DBacks played well enough in a small sample to make a WS and were immediately nonfactors the next season.

I do think it is about the team. You either have the talent to make the playoffs or you don’t. They started off awful last season but even with Tucker sidelined for most of the rest of the season they played good ball the rest of the way. They were never going to go full rebuild.

I’ve seen other people mention Drayton/Purpura, I just don’t see it. They have so much more talent on this team.

If Walker is on the same aging curve as Abreu we will be quite happy. Since Abreu was very good his age 34 and 35 season.

I’m fine if they need a rebuild soon. But signing a good player to a short contract isn’t going to make that impossible. They haven’t added anything that won’t likely have trade value if that’s the course they decide mid-season or after 2025.

But doing this also doesn’t preclude a rebuild. They traded one of their most tradable assets and if this season goes south they still have plenty more.
