My first ever Akejima post, before I decided underclassman Goro was hot
The concept of Akechi and the Niijima being siblings is so funny because Makoto is actually two months older than Goro. You just know she would pull rank and play up her "responsible and sensible onee-chan" side. Depending on whether they grew up together, Goro could either have a soft spot for her act, or he could be the nastiest, meanest little brat about it. #I feel like a properly adopted goro would actually be very nice to his loved ones #so if he grew up with makoto he would probably let her fuss and order him around within reason #not to mention that after niijima papa's death #I feel like Makoto would try to take care of goro in an attempt to feel both useful and in control #and so his soft spot grows even if he finds her attitude annoying sometimes #it's just two people pleasers with an extreme desire to feel needed circling each other like wounded animals

how BM Haru came to be an influencer
Black Mask Haru had a personal instagram where she shared her passion for gardening and baking. It was her escape from her..."tasks." There, in her garden or in her kitchen, the daily stress she accrued from dealing with her father and his associates couldn't touch her. It made her forget her actions. If these bloody hands can still create something beautiful, then surely she couldn't be as monstrous as her heart thought, deep down. That is, until her father and Shido decided to turn it into an influencer account so she can gain deeper access to Mementos. That was also when she got a manager and a publicist, who started controlling her appearance and her image. They straightened then recurled her hair to more conventional (socially accepted) waves. They wanted to "get rid of the frizz." They replaced her cozy pastels and frills with basic neutrals because it was "too childish." It wouldn't fit the sophisticated tradwife image they wanted from her. Her garden and her kitchen were changed, polished, so she can promote a consistent aesthetic. Her own room was redecorated so she could stream from it. Gradually, her hobbies became tainted. It reminded her of being controlled. It lost its innocence.

Argh, there are so many, but the one I'm currently following is Rose and Rot by sixteenjuniper. Akechi slow redemption. Very poetic with strong fairy tale vibes.

He brings back with him an ancient fairytale forest haunted by the ghosts of everyone he’s ever killed, and he is the only one who can free them. Instead of destroying everything inside, Goro chooses to stay. Wandering the forest, he completes impossible task after impossible task in the hopes of saving all his ghosts. When Ren Amamiya learns Akechi survived he becomes focused on the challenge he believes has been thrown down - to find him and drag him back to Tokyo. But for Ren discovering where Akechi has gone proves to be its own impossible task, one that might unravel him.

Black Mask Haru AU The target this time was a policeman. Not that it mattered. Still, the irony of the chief of police ordering a hit on his own man made Haru sigh. It seems like this man was investigating a trafficking case without express permission. It could have been a commendable initiative, but his sleuthing wasn't as subtle as he must have hoped. He had tipped the traffickers off. With tensions high and alerts even higher, the criminals will soon relocate unless he ceased his investigations. He would have listened, if he truly cared. No wonder the chief bumped this request so high up in priority. Not to mention... Her eyes flashed as she thought of the many cases she had found of sexual harrassement committed by his coworkers, and the way he had helped obfuscate them. Oh, she was going to pay a few visits to the other world, later, but perhaps this policeman wasn't a bad place to start. She didn't understand how he could turn a blind eye to all that, when he himself had two daughters. From the fifth floor of a luxury hotel, Haru watched the target approach the edge of the street. She wondered what expression he wore. Most people already had weak minds and the command she planted deep in them took like fish to water. For more complexe maneuvers though, she needed to overwrite their mind entirely. And in that few moments when her commands took over, their faces changed. Some went slack, others went rigid. She idly played with her hair. Her eyes wandered. It was raining. Heavy drops whipped at her window as the air blurred everything in sight. The traffic lights flared bright red. I'm sorry it has come to this, Niijima-san. It's nothing personal. He walked. #haru being willfully blind and justifying why the chief so desperately wants niijima to stop investigating... lol

Roleswap AU except Akechi and Joker are childhood friend soulmates and doing their own thing with Futaba. Meanwhile, Haru, with her natural proficiency with psychic abilities, is forcibly pushed to awaken her persona Wu Zetian, and becomes Noir, Shido's personal assassin and her father's bargaining chip. Haru's psychic power revolves around hypnosis and brainwashing. It basically opens the target's mind to suggestion, and when needed, she can break them as well. Unlike Call of Chaos, which awakens the target's ugliest hidden impulses, Haru's power directly suppresses their ability to think for themselves. If used repeatedly, it will slowly turn the target unresponsive to outside stimuli, their mind completely atrophied. She had to work with Dr. Maruki who was selected to nurture Haru's powers. The first choice would've been Isshiki Wakaba, but her lab mysteriously caught fire after a failed experiment exploded... Deluding herself into thinking that she was serving justice, she aided Shido and her father in taking down corrupt and abusive men. If these men turned out to also be competition, then it must simply be a coincidence. Unlike in-game Akechi, who seems to not really use his powers outside of orders, Haru is a prolific power abuser in an almost Phantom Thief fashion. She does this out of genuine wish to help, but a tiny part of her is also using this as a way to maintain her illusion of justice. Like, look, I'm helping! All of this is for justice! Would a horrible assassin desperate for her father's approval do this? Only, the problem is that her power is not permanent, so she either has to make the decision of using her power again and again, or let the power fade and the target will revert to their original ways. When she first learns about the Phantom Thieves, she's intrigued. She always felt alone in her justice, but now, there are more people using the Metaverse and persona powers for justice. This is so exciting! Except she meets them and immediately hates their guts because all she sees are nicer, less unhinged versions of herself. They're untainted and naive and sincere in all the ways she isn't (or so she thinks). They make it so so clear that Haru is delusional in her view of justice, that it's all nonsense she's making up to cope. They never murdered anyone (Goro says lol), never felt their victim target's mind break in their hands. Shido had ordered her to destroy them. She was hesitant at first, but now she inexplicably wants to do exactly that. (Dirty their purity and break their innocence, like Haru had to break herself)
