Playing around in the darkroom today. I found some cyanotype paper yesterday that was sensitized 9 years ago - the top paper in the photo was what it looks like unexposed. I contact printed a sheet, and it took an image!

Two sheets of paper coated with cyanotype sensitiver. Both were coated a little over 9 years ago, and kept sort of in the dark. The top sheet shows the unexposed paper, the bottom sheet was exposed with a negative I was working on and developed. It actually showed an image (of model Ivory Flame). I was amazed!

Testing exposure on my light box for cyanotypes, to get ready to do gum over cyanotype prints. Found some approx. 9 year old dry cyanotype chemistry in the basement - it still seems to work!

Exposure time print, and a couple of test cyanotypes (exposed lightly for gum). The astute among you will notice that the model (Ivory Flame) is reversed in the two prints. I learned to do the negative in the opposite direction (from, say kallitype printing) for gum, to make it easier to register multiple layers. I still keep printing backwards if I'm not paying attention!

I spent last week in Maine learning gum bichromate printing in a workshop with Diana Bloomfield! A challenging process, but I can see lots of potential for color printing.
