If Elon can turn up to a Cabinet meeting looking like a schoolboy pretending to be a thug, then President #Zelensky can wear whatever the hell he pleases. I’m glad he doesn’t take sartorial advice from #Trump. #Ukraine

Trump’s disgusting behavior in our Oval Office in the company of a genuine hero and defender of democracy like Volodymyr Zelensky may be the most disgraceful public behavior by any president in our history.

The same Republicans loudly berating #Zelensky for “telling it like it is” (isn’t that their brand?) in the Oval Office and supposedly disrespecting #Trump did not attack Netanyahu when he gave a speech before Congress blasting the President. Alas, the President was Obama. #Vance #Ukraine

Der Präsident eines Staates, der seit drei Jahren geschunden und zerstört wird und dessen Bevölkerung vergewaltigt wird, muss sich vom US-Präsidenten vor der ganzen Welt anbrüllen lassen. Was für eine Schande

We in #Europe need to think beyond #NATO for our continental defence, and swiftly. If today’s events didn’t focus minds, I really don’t know what will. #Ukraine #Zelensky #Trump

Lindsey Graham is a coward. That’s the post.

Trump and Vance act as if the problem is that Ukraine is resisting an ongoing Russian invasion. The problem is the ongoing Russian invasion. If they want to use American power to stop the war, apply it to the aggressor. Abusing the victim is not going to end a war of aggression.

#Zelensky has more balls than the entire Republican Party combined. Legendary.

Trump? Childish, petulant, intemperate.

Vance? An opportunistic, snivelling coward who knows better.

#Germany needs its own nuclear deterrent, under the command of our Chancellor - and fast. We can no longer rely on the United States in the event of Russian or Chinese aggression. #Ukraine #Trump #Zelensky

#Germany becomes a less predictable partner for the EU. While #Merz will likely lead a CDU/CSU/SPD coalition, centrist parties no longer possess a constitutional amendment majority in the Bundestag. AfD and Left can block any amendments that aim at altering the EU Treaties. #btw25 #bundestagswahl

I celebrate the 80% of Germans who did not vote for the far right. Do not make 19.6% of German voters into "the" German people (again).

"The" German people don't exist! The German population is diverse and divided, but voted overwhelmingly for liberal democratic parties.

#Merz sounding very pragmatic and realistic about the unreliability of the #Trump Administration and also hints at a possible #NATO breakup. Says that Germany and Europe need to address this asap. And he is right. #btw #btw25 #Bundestagswahl

A coalition between CDU and AFD is an extreme, undesired event even for CDU voters. 81% of CDU voters, above the overall 70% of voters, are opposed to seeing the AFD take any form of state power. It is important to remember that.

CDU wins as expected but distribution of seats &possible coalitions unclear because uncertain whether FDP makes it over 5% threshold &into Parliament at all. So. Here is something you could do (but won‘t). Switch off, wait for tomorrow morning. Most hot takes right now are premature.

Olaf #Scholz just conceded the federal election to Friedrich #Merz. That this is even notable is a sad sign of the times. #btw25 #bundestagswahl #Germany

#Merz ran against a hopelessly unpopular government. He is the opposition leader. This should have been a home run for him and Christian Democrats. Unlike in the past, voters didn’t rally around the centre-right. Instead, they are below 30%. This is abysmally bad. #btw25 #bundestagswahl #Germany

The one positive result I see from this mess is the excellent turnout of 83%. People are willing to engage with our democracy. But the centrist parties have been weakened - and #Germany must confront a difficult international scene with a weak, likely unstable 4-party govt. #btw25 #Bundestagswahl

Post-war Germany is finished. We Germans will need to get used to a much more polarised political scene and have to actively fight to protect our democracy and our liberties. #btw25 #bundestagswahl #Germany

A very fractured result in #Germany. A bad result for the mainstream parties, a bad result for German democracy. Coalition results will take months and even then will not lead to a stable government. This is bad for Germany, and bad for Europe. #btw2025 #btw25

In today’s general elections in #Germany, I expect the AfD to outperform the polls. Similar to the UK and the US, its voters are more likely to lie to pollsters. Will be at about 25%. Expect a new CDU-led govt by May/June, but only after protracted negotiations. #btw2025 #bundestagswahl
