Damn, tell me about it. Last job sucked, but manager at my new job basically said “great work so far, no notes” during our last 1:1. You don’t realize how much stress you’re carrying around from that environment until it’s gone.

Yeah, it was far from the only thing but it sure didn’t help.

Used to be my favourite player, finding out who he really was played a decent part in turning me off of hockey.

A key thing with power outages is that you don’t want to open your fridge/freezer so the cold air stay in. If you have a camp stove or other way to boil water I’d go in the direction of ramen, couscous, instant rice, etc. also don’t forget about your barbecue as long as it doesn’t get too cold!

My favourite variant is “here’s several tests testing the fundamental behaviour of the framework used throughout your entire codebase, but we’ll just skip any mildly complex business logic”

I’ve actually found several bugs like this!

I might just be naively optimistic but it seems like they’d both rather lose than have everyone they work with think they’re an asshole.

As a Canadian it frustrates me to no end how cursed we’ve been with F1 drivers in my lifetime. Insufferable loud mouth, pleasant but forgettable back marker, rich kid who doesn’t deserve his seat.

It will be hard to get a cut straight enough to look good on a deck. I’d start by asking the lumber yard you’re getting the boards from if they can rip them, shouldn’t cost much more than if you end up scrapping a board with a wonky cut.

Three cheers for RSS, strips all that out. Can’t remember the last time I actually visited their site.

I very well could be wrong! It’s just that this explanation needs three vote shifts (lib->con->lib plus NDP->con) and the places I’ve seen it brought up only the NDP->con piece has been discussed.

I’ve seen this conjecture a lot but haven’t seen it backed up by data broken out by voting history.
April 30, 2025 at 4:21 PM
Does this show that though? A few months ago we had a lot of lib->con switchers, then lib support skyrocketed as NDP dropped. While im sure there is some NDP->con movement, to me this reads as two sequential shifts that somewhat offset each other.

Chicago to New Mexico by train had its dull points but it was amazing.

Wanted to come back and say I’ve had this on repeat since, great rec and can’t wait for more!

I was given a warm red bull during frosh week 15+ years ago and have had no desire to repeat the experience.

Not a historian, but I’ve found The Fall of Civilizations to be excellent. Start with Easter Island and go from there if you like it. Main caveat is that it’s more of a biannual audiobook than podcast.

A bubble pipe solves both problems!

I’ve never felt more stuck on the wrong side of an ocean. Crisps, beer, and help a Newfie? The perfect evening.

Right, but if your circumstances change suddenly there’s either a lag or a paperwork burden to prove that.

It also avoids issues where someone’s income was too high to qualify last year but they need it this year, etc. There is some inefficiency in paying out and taxing it back, but if the cheque always comes you can always count on it no matter what else is going on in your life.

But isn’t that generally the point? The benefit of UBI being universal isn’t that everyone gets more money, it’s that it’s not stigmatized (if everyone gets a cheque, no one’s on the dole), and it’s not means tested, so administration is simpler and there’s no admin barrier to getting it.

As a former leafs fan who hasn’t followed hockey seriously in more than half a decade, this got an actual double take out of me before I realized it wasn’t *that* Gustavsson.

Three finger drag is pretty much the first setting I change on a new laptop for exactly this reason.
