Releasing water that we will almost certainly need to get us through summer, fall and potential future drought puts 40 million Californians at risk. And snowpack levels are below historical averages, making that water all the more precious. This is a handout to Trumps donors in the Central Valley….

#Trump has a faulty understanding of CA's water system. In a time of extreme crisis, he's using this emergency to line the pockets of industrial agricultural producers in the San Joaquin Valley rather than meeting the needs of everyday Californians

“The fires serve as a powerful reminder that Los Angeles was not built for global warming — and that surviving continued temperature increases will require us to reimagine our infrastructure, our housing, our financial systems and more.” We can’t return to business as usual.
Los Angeles is burning. Fossil fuel companies laid the kindling. Soon the world will stop caring.

If we don't demand better from the rich & powerful who can do more than anyone to slow the climate crisis, the fires will change nothing. My @latimes.com column: www.latimes.com/environment/...
Column: Los Angeles is a climate disaster. The fires will change nothing
If you think America’s finally going to deal with global warming because L.A. is burning, think again.

Devastating #wildfires have swept through the #LA region, causing immense damage to ecosystems, homes, & communities. In response, #Trump blames @governor.ca.gov @gavinnewsom.bsky.social alleged failure to sign the “water restoration declaration.” Absolutely false! (1)

Fact check: Why is Trump blaming the LA fires on Newsom’s water policies?
President-elect Donald Trump faulted California water policies for the devastating wildfires that are burning in Los Angeles County. The fires started because of fierce winds and extremely dry conditi...

Great reporting by @laist.com on the #LAFires. So much misinformation to combat. Water resource & wildfire management is incredibly complex. We need to come together not point blame. Experts like UCLA’s Greg Pierce highlight limitations not failures of the system.

Fact check: What really happened with the Pacific Palisades water hydrants?
Why did water hydrants run dry in the midst of a conflagration? City officials stressed that the shortage was due to low water pressure, not a complete lack of water. But what caused it, and can it be...

Check out my mega thread on misinformation being spread about the #LAFires. But if politicians and the Delta smelt aren’t to blame…who or what is?! Stay tuned for a #rant on #climatechange #corporategreed & the false promise of #carbonsequestration & #carboncredits
There’s so much misinformation about the #LAFires. From #JoeRogan repeating Trump’s falsehoods about Delta smelt being to blame for water issues in the Palisades to blaming Mayor Bass for cutting the fire department budget. These are unequivocally false & keep us from addressing the real villain.

While water supply wasn’t the issue with the
#LAfires, it is a potent argument for doubling down on efforts to develop local, climate resilient water supplies. Increased wastewater recycling and banking stormwater would create more distributed supplies that could be tapped in emergencies.
"As fires grow larger and more intense in the West, should storage tanks and other local water infrastructure be expanded to contend with them? Where? And at what cost?" This story is a powerful reminder that our cities were not built for climate change: www.latimes.com/environment/...
Why hydrants ran dry as firefighters battled California's deadly fires
Firefighters in Pacific Palisades and Altadena have repeatedly been hampered by low water pressure and dry hydrants, revealing limitations in local water systems designed to supply neighborhoods.
