Vimy Ridge is one of the most spectacular monuments to Canada’s fallen soldiers. It is simply awe-inspiring. Pictures, while beautiful, do not do it justice.

I still would like to know where they will find 3000 teachers. Teachers are leaving the profession due to poor working conditions caused by years of inadequate funding. There are not enough substitute teachers to meet the daily demand…

She and her gov’t should go “work” at a school for a couple of weeks. Teachers in support roles (admin, learning support, etc) pick up the slack when there:
-aren’t enough subs available,
-is conflict between kids,
-are parental concerns,
-are bus issues,
-the toilet overflows, …

Despite the UPC cutting funding, we should be starting recall requests for every member of the UPC. They are NOT working for their electorate, and their policies are not making the lives of Albertans better. Quite the opposite in fact.

Curriculum Branch and Assessment Branch of ABed do not consult on these either. Questions are purposely made more difficult—nuance of language, multiple ‘correct’ answers, etc.

So true! Many examples of questions from higher grades on grade 6 PATs, so I imagine it’s the same on diplomas. They serve absolutely no purpose and cost a great deal to administer.

Peter Lougheed had something the members of the UPC don’t: INTEGRITY. He fought for Albertans, but also knew Canada’s broader needs were paramount. I didn’t always agree with his politics, but I trusted him to do what was best for everyone.

The strike started October 6. That is only 16 days out of school— not including weekends—not 2 months.

Irwin: everyone should be ashamed that Alberta funds their students at the lowest level in Canada. That's not the Alberta Advantage. This fight is about students today and tomorrow. This is about public education and the future of our province.

Full time? Teacher arrives at 7:00. Students arrive at 8:00. Students leave at 2:30. Teacher leaves school at 5:30. Once home, marks, plans or creates learning materials until bedtime. That full time enough? Oh, and spends at least one day on the weekend at school.

Students are also concerned about the learning conditions in their classrooms. They are exposed to violence—throwing things, kicking, biting, spitting, vulgar language, defiance—almost daily. This is a direct result of chronic underfunding from the AB gov’t. Teachers are striking for their students!

To negotiate “without offering meaningful and reasonable solutions is harmful to students …”Yes, It is, Mme Premier. Maybe your gov’t needs to address complex classrooms with dwindling support, a stupid funding formula, decreases in grants, and increasing demands on teachers.

Thank you, Naheed, for giving this extraordinary young man a voice. He represents our future.
Thank you, Evan, for standing up for education and supporting teachers.
As a retired teacher, this gives me Hope for my colleagues who are still teaching.
