But that's uh fake, to be kind, it's not how any of this works, and if you look at history it was actually the anti-trans ppl who created "gender" as an outlet for trans ppl in the first place bc studies of trans bodies were revealing that "biological sex" wasn't scientifically tenable any longer.

The entire "sex-based rights" argument is of course meant to be nonsensical, but even if taken on its face it really only applies to an absurdly literal textual reading of the law, such that "sex" somehow loses its meaning and the laws that give rights have their wording acquire new meaning too.

Tbh even that doesn't quite make sense bc the point of political lesbianism was to choose not to give men sexual or romantic attention or to define any aspect of your identity in relation to a man, in order to escape the patriarchal pressures created by such a relationship. This is so much weirder.

The thing is that Democrats or "liberals" aren't the opposite of white supremacists. I would hope their cheerleading for the genocide in Gaza, or rationalizing countless other wars on the Global South, would've dissuaded anybody of that notion.

The Jacobin piece is the logical outcome of investment in electoral politics as the only legitimate leftist strategy. I've never made brisket for Rosh Hashanah, pretty much always salmon (did braised lamb once or twice, that was really nice too). Usually I save the brisket for Chanukah and do lamb on Pesach
