Rudbeckia h. 'Chocolate Orange' #1 was a late addition to the garden this year and it's lovely! 🌱

An Empress Wu hosta has been thoroughly chomped. Many stalks poke out of the ground, but only 4 or 5 leaves remain. They also got my rudbeckia.

Hosta season is the best season. This one is called 'blueberry muffin' and it has 3 scapes up now (only two visible here). 🌱

It's my first season with Irises and I'm pleasantly surprised to see blooms. I'm looking forward to these forming clusters and filling in a bit, for more visual impact. 🌱

A friendly bee was sampling as many flowers as possible on this azalea bush! 🌱

My first iris of the season has emerged. (In fact, it's my first season with any irises.) This one is called Honeycomb. 🌱
Honeycomb tall bearded iris from Schreiner's. Green shoots are emerging from a bed of pine straw. At the top of one shoot is a large, floofy, butter yellow and white iris flower. In the background there is a red brick house wall.

Squash sprouts in the compost 🪱🌱
Looking down into a two chamber subpod composter. There are yellowish leaves on tall translucent stalks covering a dirt pile in the right chamber. They are squash seeds that have sprouted.

🌱 Front yard camellia party. This one typically blooms in Feb/March and has two distinctly different types of flowers. (Unsure if this is an anomaly or a specific cultivar with that characteristic. Theories welcome!)

Two distinctly different camellia flowers on the same bush. One is a solid deep pink that is almost red, and the other is light pink with dark pink variegation. Flowers are framed by dark green foliage.

There's still a Jōro spider party happening in my backyard, and I almost walked into one of many webs. So now you get to see a photo.

Hopefully they're catching and eating some mosquitoes, and not just unwitting homeowners. 🌱🕷️

Peak summer.
