So, on one hand, they are actively worsening the conditions that are driving millions of people out of their homes, and on the other hand, trying to close the doors to them. Syria was just the tip of the iceberg. Even parts of the US will be uninhabitable by the end of this century. 2/

"oil and gas corporations"

And continuing the farce that asset management corporations, banks, and corporations can be incentivized to invest in economic sectors that bring a lower rate of return over a longer time span is precisely the game of Canada's new prime minister. He calls it "climate competitiveness."

I heard the interview with Minister Dabrusin. Like the Liberals before her, she pointed to policy tools that have not actually been implemented or have failed to date as evidence of the govt's commitment to reaching the 2030 (now 2050) GHG emission reduction targets. She was misleading the public.

Everything in the Carney budget is about the climate crisis--including its massive allocation of money to a build-up of weapons and surveillance technologies. Carney seems to think Canada is more threatened by an invasion by China than by the impacts of global warming. 4/

We need to be realistic. The urgency of the polycrisis demands more radical measures: public investment and ownership, big investment in social services, strong emission regulations, democratic reform, recognition of Indigenous co-government, a massive public education and engagement effort . . .3/

The UCP has found multiple other uses for Kaumeyer, such as appointing him co-chair of the Premier's Council on Competition and to the Alberta Economic Development Authority. 6/

From December 2019 to August 2020 Kaumeyer was a “Strategic Advisor” to Premier Jason Kenney and was then appointed the Premier’s Principal Secretary. 5/

Kaumeyer was appointed by the Kenney government to the Board of Governors of the University of Alberta in 2019, when it purged the board of NDP appointees. But he resigned from this position after only three months when Kenney offered him another (paid) job. 4/
