“What is your poetry style in one image?”

It’s many things, but I believe this photo my brother took of the Florida coast at night sums it up pretty well.

My prose "Halloween 24'" by Lauren Michele: Halloween is freedom. It is the little girl inside of us that we trap inside a cage and hide deep within ourselves. Some of us let a tiny bit of her light peak through the grime we've encased her in, so once a year on the one night when anyone can be anything, we can be ourselves. I, however, am not one of those people able to uncage her. It has been well over ten years since I last trick-or-treated and today, I was finally able to figure out why I have cried every Halloween since. Of course, never celebrating my favorite holiday led to tears yearly, but this year it is more than that. I realized that I have not been able to experience the same level of freedom, happiness, or being entirely myself, or someone else, since I lost the little girl inside of me. Happiness exists inside the memories of a Halloween-themed birthday party for a little girl and the freedom of running down a dark road and never feeling like she needs to look around for a predator. I wish I was still that little girl, and I'm terrified I will never be able to experience happiness like that again. So, on my 24th Halloween, here's to another Halloween of tears.

Fear hides under sore wings; an unseen monster sings. Butterflies are heaven and hell. “Everything is... L.” “Meet me at the park in spring.” But what if the bees sting? “We can see the butterflies.” I’d rather let the flowers die. Poem: "The Book" by Lauren Michele. "I found you in the local bookstore; spine curved with shy words of hot days and cold nights. Sunburns torn into your pale cheeks, your silhouette painted to the cover in strokes of pure white. I was meant to find you. For only a day later I could see your eyes, like a cloud before it rains, flashing with joy. The universe wrote you in midnight ink, with unending words I reverently devoured. Your eyes are made of stars and your mind from your own hands. You pulled apart the clouds and shown the sun upon my grey body."
