Tl;dr - So-called 'angler' and 'conservation-supporter' groups showed promising areas of overlap in identities and beliefs.

But we also observe evidence that these intergroup conflicts are about more than fish. They are also about deep-rooted psychological and social needs.

We know that healthy oceans require healthy whales - and that many marine mammals are intelligent, long-lived, social, and already vulnerable to the consequences of climate crisis, exploitation, and other growing pressures.

Since its inception in 1972, NO marine mammals have gone extinct in US waters.

The MMPA protects whales, dolphins, marine mammals - and entire ecosystems.

Ecosystem services provided by whales and other marine mammals support entire foodwebs in US waters - and in doing so bolster US fisheries.

On July 22nd, the House Committee on Natural Resources will consider a bill to GUT the MARINE MAMMAL PROTECTION ACT.

I know you're tired - but at this early stage, resistance to the bill is gaining traction and causing proponents to reconsider.
