And update: Uganda's Human Rights Commission has ordered Uganda's military chief, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to release of Bobi Wine's bodyguard.

This is the pre-election environment in Uganda. The head of the military brags about the abduction & torture of an opposition activist as a military unit raids the opposition party's HQ. He has been posting about torture for 2 days now. His father, President Museveni, has not stopped it.
May 2, 2025 at 10:25 AM
Still going today: Muhoozi seems to publicly suggest he had a role in Bobi Wine's torture in 2018.
May 2, 2025 at 10:21 AM
And he basically admits this is all about sticking it to Bobi Wine, who he seems to see not just as his father's rival, but his own.

A reminder that this is Uganda's Chief of Defense Forces. And President Museveni's son.

The regime in South Sudan is not a transitional government - it is a dictatorship that represses its critics and manipulates ethnic divides to maintain its hold on power. This arbitrary action will do nothing to change that - it will punish people who have no say over how their country is governed.

Perhaps these tweets, bound to stir outrage in neighboring DRC, were a distraction from his since deleted tweet about killing Nuer (South Sudan's 2nd largest ethnic group)

Uganda's military chief has had a busy Sunday of tweeting, declaring that his forces are deliberately killing Nuer in South Sudan and announcing that Museveni has ordered the seizure of Kisangani, DRC

The White House claims USIP Acting President George Moose was removed by USIP'S board - but only 3 of the 15-member Senate-confirmed board are listed below. Per law, USIP's meetings must be open to the public - there appears to be no record of a meeting on March 14.

The award terminations are being challenged in court - per filings, there were serious irregularities, incl. official docs purportedly signed on behalf of the implementer without their consent, as noted by (lol) the American Bar Association.

Admin. official Pete Marocco told the US district court on 2/26 that Rubio had terminated nearly 5800 awards at USAID - per Rubio's post now, appears roughly 600 have since been restored. Reports suggest many life-saving programs were initially canceled.

Apparently US foreign assistance for civil society and democracy promotion - which have long had bipartisan congressional support - has been deemed not to align with US foreign policy under the America First agenda.

"Even if the immediate liquidity issue is resolved, hundreds of thousands of people will still be left without vital assistance previously supported by US humanitarian funding, but not covered by the current limited waiver."

"We currently have millions of dollars in outstanding payment requests to the US government. Without an immediate solution we may, at the end of February, be forced to halt US-funded lifesaving humanitarian programmes" - despite the State Dept waiver for such programs.

Over at X, Russian accounts are enthusiastically contributing to the anti-USAID campaign. A quick search for USAID & Sputnik (🇷🇺 state media) produces a flood of posts with disinformation, like this one, targeting US humanitarian aid
