Educator, sociologist, and youth advocate. Building networks of misfits, disrupters, and dreamers.
Watching business, law, and STEM students reframe their understanding of success and equity through sociological reflection is why I love soc.
Sociology isn’t just a lens—it’s a toolkit for critical thinking in every discipline. #SociologyMatters #teaching @blueskyeducation.bsky.social

The way we design learning—yes, even online—matters.
A student shared:
“If I’m being honest, I didn’t think much about what’s out there… The material made me reflect on my identity, my background, and the ideas I’ve carried without even realizing it.”

Teachers, please work to find a strength for every student, every time. Give them something, show them you see them. They will be much more likely to show up for the harder stuff. Rubrics, feedback, report cards … stop the passive shaming. It hurts them. ❤️‍🩹

I am still working on how to do this effectively, but this is the goal. One thing I do know, good education practices like this need the resources and support to be possible. #EduSky #AcademicSky

The balance between productivity and connection is important in education. It is so easy to get caught up in the push. Yesterday we spent a period, lights down, listening to quiet music, catching up, colouring, chatting, playing some games. I heard students take a breath in the pause. It was good.

Not everyone can move for a job, an undergrad degree, a post-doc, an internship, a graduate degree, a volunteer position, a study abroad program, and so forth and so forth.

Being able to move is a privilege and it's massively underappreciated in my opinion.

If you teach/coach career and life planning for youth. Have you considered having students study the career path of someone they admire before they try to plan their own? Finding someone who looks and sounds like them can inspire, open eyes and suggest possibility. #empower

Today I learned that carbon footprints were invented by BP and pushed in a mega marketing campaign to shift the conversation from corporations to individuals and I hate everyone.

Except NPR, thanks for the reporting.
