What an absolute pleasure to be interviewed by the amazingly talented Sara Santa Clara for her Interview with a Potter series over on Substack.

Such an honour to be included. You can read it now over on her highly recommended Substack "Clay on The Mind"

The latest addition to my Emergence Collection: "Becoming Fractured."

This piece continues my journey into the tension that exists at the threshold of change - between destruction and creation, between collapse and growth.

Emergence II explores the power of origin and transformation. Hand-built in stoneware, its organic, egg-like form evokes the primal symbolism of creation—something new rising from the remnants of what went before.

Emergence (I) - Emergence is the first in a series of sculptural stoneware ceramic vases that look at ideas of origin and emergence - using an egg like form to symbolise birth from the earth.

I have just posted my first ever short story - You can read it here ↓.
It’s a bit dark! 🫣 But, I hope you like it. I'd be really interested to have thoughts and interpretations on the piece, so feel free to discuss below.

Starting again in mid-life has been challenging! But, coming to art later in life has given me something unexpected: creative freedom.

Pot of the day - Early Bronze Age Chinese cooking pot. Either Qijia or Xindian culture (approx 1700-1250 BCE).

This example has a rather interesting decoration - I will leave the interpretation up to your own imaginations 🤣

My last post on Substack talked about how our hands make us human. Here’s a sketch I did a while ago - I’ve always been fascinated by hands!

What does it mean to be human in the age of AI and can arts and crafts save us?

This is a subject very close to my heart and one I grapple with every day. I’d love to know your thoughts on my latest article delving into this topic.

I refuse to chain myself to a rigid posting schedule. If my soul has nothing to say, I’d rather wait in silence until it does.

That's what my new piece on Substack explores: how the weight of expectation—from endless comparison to hustle culture—can suffocate creativity.

I'm experimenting with different ways to create a lava like texture. I've applied a white terra sigillata to a bisque body and brushed on a mix of white vinegar and bicarb. The surface clay has bubbled nicely but will the texture survive being fired?

Happy Sunday Everyone.

Slow crafting today, making some cordage from dried dandelion stalks picked from my garden a couple of weeks ago. These are going to be part of a new sculpture I'm working on.

"Child of the Rock"

A small ceramic sculpture inspired by prehistoric portable art. I have reimagined these ancient artifacts as an abstract cloaked, formless figure that looks like it has been carved out of rock.

Some beautiful examples of 4000 year old pottery found around the north east of Britian - On display at Hull and East Ridings Museum of Archeology.

Simple everyday objects that are just as familiar to us now as they were to neolithic people.
