Tomorrow is the day my daughters’ favorite book series, The Sisters Grimm, becomes a TV show. They’ve been re-reading for months in anticipation. The whole house is abuzz with excitement. Thank you @whatsupbuckley.bsky.social for this wonderful story. We can’t wait!

Hekate by Nikita Gill

Hekate is finally having her moment!
I just got this beauty, and I can’t wait to dive in.

I’ve loved Hekate since I read Macbeth back in HS. I’ve been greatly influenced by her in my own writing.

My Greek myth-loving, witchy little heart might burst. 🖤

I can’t remember the last time I devoured a book series this fast. I loved everything about this original duology: the lush gothic atmosphere, angst-ridden characters, and fascinating magic system. And what a satisfying ending.

What’s the last book you couldn’t put down?

Family trip to Salem, MA. Summer is a much less hectic time to visit. We got to see all the literary, historical and WITCHY places. And I got a lot of inspiration for a new project I’m planning. 🧙‍♀️🐈‍⬛🔮

Homeschooled Calli is the next Fate.
Her sworn protector is a griffin.
Her best friend feels neglected.
The boy next door doesn’t trust her.
A fierce goddess is on her trail.
Her own existence is about to be erased.
And Calli thought public school was going to be hard.

Happy Summer Solstice ☀️

Welcome summer! As a teacher, summer means rest. As a writer, it means time to finish projects. As a mom, it means quality time with my kids. All things I sorely need. 😴✍️💗

❓What does summer mean for you?

What a beautiful, bittersweet read. A young woman makes a Faustian bargain with a dark god for immortality, but she is forgotten by anyone she meets & cannot leave a mark in the world. Part adventure, part cautionary tale, part love story. It’s also a love letter to art, books, and music. 📚💙

Is there a better opening to a Shakespeare play?

I’m teaching Macbeth & the 3 Witches are my Roman Empire. I’m talking about them, reading about them, writing about them…

My book on submission imagines a fictional origin story for Macbeth’s witches. Help me manifest a little magic for myself. 📚💙🤞🏻✨

I’m teaching Macbeth. The kids are reading aloud. The props are in full swing. And they are enjoying it!

Macbeth plays a key role in my book that’s on submission.

When my teacher and writer worlds collide, it feels like magic (or maybe witchcraft). ✨

I walked into the living room and found this lovely sight resting on the arm of our sofa.

My youngest has always been a reader, but she recently discovered the joy of annotating!

My English teacher-writer-mama heart is filled to the brim. 💗📚✍️

💔 This book broke my heart. I knew going in that Haymitch had a dark past, but it still managed to make me cry.

Despite that, I really enjoyed it. I loved the character cameos from the original trilogy, the clever Easter Eggs, and the use of Poe’s “The Raven.” English-teacher approved! 💙📚

Don’t mind me…
I’m just hanging out in the YA Fantasy section by the “S” shelf exactly where my book “will” sit one day… MANIFESTING ✨

(Much to the chagrin of my teen daughter. 😂)

Cheers to 100 years of The Great Gatsby! 🥂

I re-read this beautiful book every year with my classes & I always find something new to love. Fitzgerald gave the world a gift with his magnificent words.

Happy Birthday, Gatsby! “You’re worth the whole damn bunch put together.” 💚 📚💙

I love being an English teacher & a writer. I’m grateful to pursue my passions & get paid for it. (Well, at least one of them- so far🤞🏻.)

But sometimes the days are HARD.

It helps to remember the good days. Here are some highlights (taken from over many years). 🧵

I fell in love with Alice as a child through picture books and the Disney movie. When I got older, I taught it to my students & read it to my children. This book has been in every stage of my life.

❓Is there a beloved childhood book that you read to your own kids or taught to your students?

Maybe it’s my fascination with the past or my love of boat & water metaphors. Maybe it’s because I’m a sucker for alliteration & this line reads like a soothing lullaby, almost like waves themselves beating against the shore.

Whatever the reason, this line gets me. Every. Single. Time.

I just read this little gem of a book & it did not disappoint!

Supposedly, Howl inspired Rhysand from ACOTAR. It was fun to find those connections.

What I loved MOST about this book was the John Donne poem used as the riddle. English-teacher-approved!

❓Have you read Howl? 💙📚

Reading Jane Eyre for the first time as a teenager was a “Canon Event” in my life. The plain heroine who knew her worth. The gothic estate with a hidden secret. The morally gray love interest.

❓Is there a book that set your course as a reader? 📚💙

My kind of “March” Madness 📚❤️

My daughters have recently discovered Little Women, and it warms my heart to be able to share it with them.

❓Have you read or watched Little Women? Do you have a favorite March sister?

“From the Library of…”

This rose gold personalized embosser is my new favorite bookish accessory. I chose this particular stamp because it is a book with an hourglass on the cover (so it could be MY book.) 💖⏳

Do you put your name in your books? 💙📚
