When I started doing these studies , I focused on bringing political figures in black and white to life. This study of George Washington was painted in oil.

This last one completes the study and was done with vine charcoal hand-colored with pigments. Probably as close to a likeness as I’ve produced.

Unlike the first painting, this was was done with pastels. Not my favorite medium. Looks a bit sickly and lifeless, but I added the facial blemishes I omitted from the first.

As a cathartic exercise, I am posting a study I did of @chrismurphyct.bsky.social
This first effort was done with watercolor. Water color is not opaque, so this colors were layered on top of each other until opacity was achieved. Not an exact likeness, it was painted to as an homage to strength.
