Attempting to stay in joy and ignore pain is bypassing.
Getting stuck in pain keeps you stuck.
What we need for balance and to be present with ourselves and in our world is to be able to have both joy and pain be parts of our experience.

I know because I ran past them this morning and said a silent prayer that they were, indeed, sleeping.
