I'm not sure what this tree is, but look at that banging winter colour

Oddest one for me was coming out of a dance class to find my front brake caliper entirely gone

Amazing - I'd like to think I'd do the same... but you never know until you're in that situation I guess!

Impressive, tackling a thief for a stranger's wheel like that. I bet they weren't expecting that!

Coincidentally my mum's registration plate was cloned in October. Luckily she was shopping in Somerset when the driver with her cloned plate was caught driving dangerously in Essex. She provided her card receipt as evidence but never heard a conclusion to the case, either way 🤷‍♀️

This is a refrain we heard in the inquiry, too. People with multiple plates pulling over in laybys and switching them over in broad daylight

Thank you for sharing, Sean!

Yes it's an issue - until people grasp the far-reaching implications of the problem, that tends to be the response. So police/professional training is among our recommendations.

As across transport, this issue touches our lives in fundamental ways and deserves all the attention – and solutions – it deserves. Thanks to the team, including Fusion Media for your work on this, and for trusting me to write the report. And sharing hopes for the forthcoming Road Safety Strategy!
December 9, 2025 at 9:57 AM
From the tens of thousands of unvetted registration plate producers handling people's ID documents, to criminals operating with impunity on the roads, to road safety and justice, to the safety of women and girls, the implications of the registration plate system's flaws are incredibly far reaching.
December 9, 2025 at 9:54 AM
The humble number plate, our report finds, is desperately lacking in the appropriate security measures for such an important personal identifier, from the rules and checks governing who produces them, to their use and tampering on the roads, to finding lawbreakers and bringing them to justice

OK, of course the online form didn't match the list of questions so I've amended my Substack post to help those who are filling in the form online. There is also an email address you can simply bung a reply to, if that gets too confusing (it may!) CWIS3consultation@dft.gov.uk

Thank you Phil!

Thanks to funding this year from the Foundation for Integrated Transport I've been contacting/interviewing lots of interurban path campaigners, and I've made a list of the ones I know about. There are probably more and so if you do know of them, please share! docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

Those voices extend beyond walking and cycling to the National Trust, the BMA, the AA Charitable Trust, Stonewall, Transport for All and the Linnean Society, and more. You can read @peterwalker99.bsky.social coverage of it in the Guardian here www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
