It’s been a minute since I’ve been over here. I’ll remedy that with regular posts, mostly of my work (which I hope entertains you). So, here’s two of my bird pins. These are sculpted from genuine leather. So, not exactly taxidermy, but not at all “vegan art.”

It starts by looking at a chameleon. From there, sketches are drawn, leather is sculpted and painted, and a sterling silver chain is attached in the space of a few hours. And there you have it. A little leather chameleon necklace.

Two little nekkid velociraptors (sculpted leather & acrylic paint). Colors inspired by modern Komodo dragons (no relation to velociraptors). I’ll do up some some sketches for feathered versions, and likely use macaws as inspiration for color palette.

Animals make me happy. So, after sketching a velociraptor, I sculpted one with veg-tanned sheep hide (softer than cowhide, a better for more detailed work). Now, to let her dry, & decide what colors to paint her (then work out a pattern for one covered with feathers).

Look how big Pencil & Eraser’s chicks, Pen & Ink have gotten! In just a couple of weeks! Just after I shot this, they flew off for an afternoon adventure, but they always come back at night to sleep in the shed.
