The Raptor Rehabilitation Center in Sitka, Alaska is worth visiting. The birds are most commonly injured from power lines, car collisions, and gunshots. Highly pathogenic avian influenza and other diseases are additional threats.

Environmental contamination doesn’t usually include explosive devices, but in the case of Laos, it should. During the Vietnam War, the U.S. dropped over 2 million tons of bombs on the country. Decades later, unexploded bombs maim and kill Laotians. The long term consequences of war are severe.

Posted with the permission of Xua Xor, Hmong shaman living in Tin Keo village, Laos. Three different ethnic groups share the village. He provides health care to his people when the doctors can’t help them. I would post the video of him playing but this app doesn’t allow videos longer than a minute.

The villagers in Tin Keo village catch the rats and other pests that eat their rice crops. Then they cook and eat them.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of visiting the primary school in Tin Keo village located about an hour’s drive from Luang Prabang, Laos. The school is supported by the Grand Circle Foundation.
