It's not just news sites; snapshots of government homepages are also affected
October 21, 2025 at 7:27 PM
Nieman Lab analyzed the homepage URLs of 100 news sites (including the top 50 English language sites, top international news sites, and local news sites) and found an 87% decline in snapshots in the last 5 months of this year. Here are just a few examples

This, "President Trump came through for Los Angeles" by a former special assistant to President George W. Bush, does get the AI treatment plus a "center" AI-generated political rating www.latimes.com/opinion/stor...
March 5, 2025 at 2:51 PM
The @latimes.com has also beefed up its warnings on the AI content since our post yesterday, adding that "The Los Angeles Times editorial staff does not create or edit the content," it is just running wild and free

4. The methodology for assigning the articles' political viewpoints is totally opaque. I had to go digging through a Medium post and ask Particle questions to try to understand and I still don't get it. I don't know why a reader would trust these

2. The same citations are used to both describe what's in the articles and provide the counterpoints to them. These share the same 7 citations.

Perplexity told me sourcing only "appears" to be the same “because it’s 1 list of all sources that inform both sections" but that's not how it's presented
March 4, 2025 at 8:48 PM
like. these pieces are the sources for that last point, "Regulation risks stifling innovation." But the pieces themselves argue for more regulation
March 4, 2025 at 8:43 PM
Other problems: 1. The AI’s sourcing and citations are strange.

The AI misrepresents articles that are critical of AI. See all the sources here in blue? These all point to articles that, when you click through, are in most cases quite critical of AI
