Stumbled onto this one the other night. She woke up the next morning and said, “where’s my snack?”

Their data set was from 2014-2018, which they say is only time Medicare required hospice med use reporting. Mean hospice LOS (from the paper) was 136 days w SD 187 days(!)- this was the era when hospices could enroll patients very loosely. Makes it quite hard to know what to do with the findings.

I appreciate you naming why that comment has always not sat right. It’s almost like an implied “you weirdo” at end. I’ve started telling people that all of medicine is hard and you pick the best hard for you. Maybe correctly shifts the frame to a broader failure of imagination about doctoring?

Snowcrash (1992) was very prescient about a lot of internet-related changes but has been a while since I read it so can’t cite specifics off the top of my head.

My favorite place in the extended Bay Area is Mendocino. Redwoods but also stunning cliffs over the ocean, cute town, and a very low key wine growing area on the drive in. Heard good things about this place for glamping but haven’t been: mendocinogrove.com

These are sequoias (rather than redwoods) but agree highly recommend this area!

If you want to see San Francisco plus a day or 2 in Redwoods, can stay in the city and go to Muir Woods and some state parks in Marin. If you want to stay somewhere out of the city, depends how far you want to drive from the airport and town vs rural.
