Some Christian missionaries were agents of colonialism, some Christian missions were carried on in the teeth of opposition from their wider societies because they were seen as too sympathetic to the native populations. There’s no consistent pattern.

Not just American - I am British and older - I can still remember the shock of the catcalls I got when I walked past a pub while wearing shorts - I was 14 or 15 and hadn’t experienced anything like it before.

I’m in the uk. Financial literacy here definitely includes an element of ‘This is how much they are charging you in interest’ and ‘watch out for traps’!

But knowing about financial predators is surely helpful for all sorts of reasons? There are still people who assume that eg banks are a public service rather than entities whose ultimate purpose is to extract money!

Bad example - the OT counters Nineveh (bad) with Jerusalem (good). Nahum really has it in for Nineveh! As for the NT the contrast is between earthly cities (imperfect) with the heavenly city - new Jerusalem - which gets established in revelation.
