My memory (ca. my 2008 MA comps) is these books helped legitimize OH more widely by arguing that interviews were not valuable for finding out "facts" about the past, but because they told us about the meaning of past events for individuals. Not as early as others, but v. influential in OH practice.

In 1987 there was Luisa Passerini’s “Fascism in Popular Memory,” and in 1991 Portelli’s “The Death of Luigi Trastulli”!
