A year ago, I took my kids & mom to the glorious old-school wooden playground of my childhood. It was the last time my mom played with the kids before she died.

Today I took my kids back—& discovered the park was bulldozed & replaced w/ a modern plastic playground + splashpad 😭
An enormous old wooden playground with bridges and towers and a maze and a million hidey-holes for kids to play in.

My 6-year-old has asked EVERY day this week if we can make strawberry cake. (Why strawberry, I dunno, he's never had strawberry cake.)

After HOURS of very helpful help from my 9 & 6-yo kids: strawberry cake! Masterfully decorated, of course.

(And now, I need a vacation 😂)

Spring is my favorite season—when darkness & bitter cold fracture, when Hope seeps through their cracks.

But this year, it feels like Hope is the one cracking.

Trying to trust that darkness will end, that the metaphorical world will turn. We all deserve better than this.

If phone calls cause you anxiety, now is a great time to call your representatives—while their offices are closed—and leave a voicemail calling for a ceasefire.

5Calls is a great site to streamline the process without ending up on a bunch of mailing lists.

Dear reader, it's important to understand that my youngest child is 6 years old. So achieving this is basically like finding Bigfoot, except harder.
A 26-piece stacking baby puzzle from the brand Melissa & Doug. It has three wooden posts, upon each of which rests a rainbow pyramid of wooden rings. One set of rings is square, one set of rings is round, and one set of rings is octagonal. The puzzle is not missing any pieces.

We're in the second biggest COVID wave of all time (+ high flu, RSV, & strep levels). If you'll be in public, please test, wear an N95 or similar mask, & ventilate well. Or even safer, stay home. COVID does long-term organ damage & can disable even the healthiest of people.

Today is the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. But after these 75 years, Palestine remains occupied & oppressed.

Last night, Dallas gathered for a lovely interfaith vigil to mark this occasion. We mourn the dead & fight like hell for the living.

Meanwhile, my kids are the only ones masking—and they have to unmask at lunch w/ all the sick kids 🫠
