It's called location premium.

Most greenbelts just strangulate towns. Most of them are just propaganda from the NIMBYs.

The UK is much bigger than people *feel* living in crowded spaces, towns and cities.

Residential buildings take less than 1% of UK land.

Space is NOT the reason. The gray vote is. And consulting only current local residents and not the younger house-less future buyers of the future potential houses, as they don't exist yet.
