I know it's a meme how beloved Bolt Thrower is but my introductions to death metal were whatever @bayoublastbeats.bsky.social sent my way. Those Once Loyal blew the genre wide open for me and it'll always be special to me (even if The IVth Crusade is the better album).

After spending the last few days listening to Galneryus almost exclusively, these 4 albums (and THE STARS WILL LIGHT THE WAY) stand out as the best the band has to offer. Resurrection blew me away and it wasn't until Into the Purgatory that some of their work started to dip. Legendary band.

A bold album that experiments from start to finish. Clearly establishing their own sound in power metal, this album signifies the potential of this band. Every song feels different from the previous one but united by the excellent guitar work. The 90s jrpg fan in me delights at this album!

The band's first statement that "we are inspired by EUPM but are setting ourselves apart." The influence of the budding j-rock scene begins to filter into their sound without departing too far from EUPM. You can hear the lightbulb going off and the growth the band has undergone since their debut.

A solid debut that, to me, firmly places them in the line of European symphonic and power metal. This album sounds like a band trying to figure out how they fit in such a storied genre while respecting its history. Flashes of the band they would become filter through (Child of Free).

Legs have always been a weak point for me with how skinny I've always been but finally getting a good set of wheels. Tunes playing: Glint by Fellowship

The Enduring Spirit is iconic. From the moment it starts it tells you what it is and that it is not fucking around. One of my favorite death metal albums. So fun. Fantastic band to see live.

Going to be trying some of these out today! I heard the advance stream of Blackbraid but will be giving it another shot. Asunojokei also is promising. And of course the Deep Sea black metal of Uzlaga.

Thank you for the inspo @amandak6647.bsky.social ! These are the 25 records I've come back to this year many times. The top 5 are my current top 5 for the year but I'm eager to see what else comes out this year!

The fact that UtA used any AI in the making of this album and other release materials only adds insult to injury because all the teeth have been removed from the music. It barely contains a ghost of the band that produced Apex and Abyss. And yet they want to speak of the creative need for AI.
