Thought it might be fun to share my little ideas doc I write on when I get ideas and all I have on me is my phone.

Once the idea is in the right doc I erase it from this one

Every few weeks I think if this image and I have to go and find it again.
Sharing it so you all have to see it too

Some moves make you Mark Suspicion, ticking a box on the suspicion tracker. GMs can also make you Mark Suspicion as a GM move. Once the suspicion track is filled up for you, you become Cornered, a situation that greatly changes the narrative for your character.

Every player (for now, we'll add different starting traits) starts with the "Regular Teen Facade" trait. This trait represents the fact that their main advantage over the Enemy is that the Enemy doesn't know that their opponent is a bunch of teens, and it is a good idea to keep it that way.

3) It helps do once-per-campaign things

We only have a single such usage right now, but it works so well to have "you can only do this once" type moves that you physically take out of your character sheet when they get used up. It feels *powerful*

More interestingly, you can take out entire moves. Take "Comfort or Support". It triggers in intimate moments with teammates. If you take the whole move out, then you can still have intimate moments with teammates, but you won't roll, and you won't get the benefits or risks of the move.

Crowdfunding campaigns are stressful + expensive.
Rather than spend ~40% of funds on stuff that isn't the book, we'd rather a most of that go to making the book happen.
Rather than ask you to risk your money in something that may never exist, we'd rather give you something tangible for your money.

#4: Letting the Animal Take Control
One of the most important moves in the game is "Let the Animal Take Control". If you are transformed and need to do something your character's stats aren't good at, you can let the animal do it better, as long as its something the animal is good at.

Part 2: Traits
Character's primary traits, likewise, can be transformed. For example, the Group Leader can physically cut out their "Group Leader" trait and replace it with the "Alpha of the Pack" trait when they Feed the Beast.

The sections of your character sheet you can rip away are specifically parts of Moves where you relate or connect to other people. As your character Feeds the Beast, they lose the ability to relate to other people as they lose their innocence.

#2: Metaphorical Transformation
Part a: Feed the Beast
The game carries the metaphor that your characters don't just literally transform into beasts, but they metaphorically do so as well. Look at the Move titled "Feed the Beast"
The move makes you stronger while taking something away

Just for fun I cooked up the book cover in the old Animorphs books style

All the work in the quickstart and the book have been done by a mostly latine team of incredible people. The layout will be done by the amazing @byfrancita.bsky.social, with a sample below. As mentioned above, art so far is by @lucasnwd.bsky.social and the logo is by @lamalamuerte.bsky.social

Progression in Beasts is done by your character becoming hardened. As they do, they *feed the beast*, a move where you cut a piece off your character sheet to gain an advantage.

The parts of your character sheet you can cut off though, are the ways you connect to other people and to the world.

It's Latine Heritage Month so I'm really excited to announce a little side project I've been working on. Quickstart guide is available here: latinerd.itch.io/beasts

*In war there are no gods, no devils. There are only beasts.*

Playing arachnogenesis into a board with coat of arms was pretty sweet

You can see here what we did for koboa. Each row is a page, saying what text is there, what art is there, and what the word count is (estimated or actual). Its tough but you may have to just decide how many words or pages a specific section will be budgeted to budget layout costs.
