I was to young to vote for Whitlam, but his social reforms were, and will probably remain, the most visionary in Australian political history. Medibank (the big one), free uni, TAFE, land rights, Vietnam, arts funding,the list goes on. His failings pale into insignificance compared to those.

This, and a hundred other similar examples, is why I cannot abide my tax dollars going to private schools. I grew up in a private school education bubble, oblivious of the horrendous inequality outside that bubble. Now, as an adult, I am appalled.

I'd say their parenting was perfect, in raising a child that is educated in the world and can think critically.
