Oh it was before that, they cued up this argument in 2009 against the ACA. Somehow every right winger was convinced that every health malady was because you ate the wrong food and got fat, so why should they pay for it, you dirty pig.
Then they kept eating KFC.

Turned out I'd made the mistake because I had mistakenly believed I'd flown across the International Date Line the week before. I hadn't. Instead I'd spent The Entire Week believing it was one day forward from the day it was.

This was before smartypants phones so to have my argument with the gate agent, I had to go print the ticket email with the full information on it from a kiosk. This flight was also to move out of a country forever so I didn't have anywhere to go for the 24 hours.

I went to the airport 24 hours early once, arriving at 5:30 a.m. for a 7:30 international flight with my confirmation number and flight number in hand.

If somebody is still insisting on bad ideas after being presented good countering evidence, they're irrationally obstinant, a cynical grifter with financial interest in misleading, or dumb.
Tldr you're right but it only works in a good faith situation and I think we blew that popsicle stand.

You're not wrong, but I do tend to think that most of the people who get called dumb for having bad ideas have had NUMEROUS opportunities to put their ideas up for discussion.

I really enjoyed the stuff that got suggested to me in the early days of filesharing. There was a platform pre-Limewire and post-Napster that did a great job suggesting unknown bands to me I bought a lot of CDs that way. Can good sharing algorithms do that?
