The princess thought it was an excellent deal when her old rival accepted her challenge with such lopsided stakes: the nuisance would be banished to the countryside and stay out of the princess's hair forever if she lost. She felt rather differently now that she had been so summarily trounced--their caliber of skill was simply not the same--and she was faced with the prospect of actually upholding her end of the deal. Her rival's foot dangled in front of her: waiting for her to lean in and kiss it. Just a little peck was all that was required, but the smug look on her rival's face filled the princess with burning humiliation she wasn't sure she could ever forget.

Stealing a password or two is easy once you have somebody's neural imprint. You can't just reach in and take it, that's not how it works, but set their mind-clone in front of a computer for long enough and they'll probably just type it in. Things get... messier when you're after something more intricate. Thankfully, most people's minds are just *riddled* with psychological vulnerabilities. Simulate five thousand versions of them at a time and you can make some really fast progress at finding them. Every single person has a crack somewhere, just waiting for a delicate touch or a sweetly whispered word to reach in and pry it open. What's yours?

Dancing with someone in a ballroom and doing battle with an equally matched opponent are fundamentally alike. In order to move together on the dance floor, partners must counter-intuitively push against each other at all times. The tension is what lets them feel one another's movements. Without both parties actively pushing into their counterpart, there can be no coordination. When you're fighting someone (in a fighting game, because that's where my experience lies, but I've heard the same of sword sports and grappling), things will either end very quickly in one party's favor or else you will settle into the same kind of tension. Each party feels the other's rhythm, senses their intention, and probes for weakness. Pull back too far and your opponent will move to fill the space. Push too fast and your opponent will put you on the ground. Movement, back and forth, poking and prodding until an explosive, climactic moment of action.
