I think there was also a controversy around him giving the dogs more “white” names, as those did better numbers? I should get out more.

Hopefully Nigel will talk up for other critical industries.

My relatives spoke fondly of the communities they formed painting radium dials. I worry we won’t even be able to paint water colours if this carries on.

“I agree but for god’s sake don’t say it out loud” would have saved us all a lot of time.

I honestly don’t think people care. Whitehall gets remodelled all the time- Old Admiralty restored, BEIS torn down, prime estate sold for hotels, no one outside the bubble notices.

They will however notice if Parliament collapses/ burns down! We should spend the cash.

Ironically, the other place is full of disgruntled losers willing this on as “there was no mandate for immigration since the 50’s”.

They ignore that mass deportation is deeply unpopular.

“We can’t say it, you know what you are” rings out across the amex most weekends, and it was far worse at the Withdean even 20 years ago.

“Such was the rhythm of British life”…

It’s so incredibly patronising.

We banned bendy buses years ago because they were so dangerous, (mostly to cyclists and pedestrians), so I actually sympathise with the robot there.
October 16, 2025 at 4:31 PM
Honestly? I wouldn’t do it, but it’s not the worst bit of driving I’ve seen today.

The bus barely brakes, if at all.

I share that concern, but having seen them navigate trams and right on red junctions, I’m less worried about the UK/US road comparison than I was.

They also 3d map the operating areas before launch, so the cars are in theory aware of the space they operate in. They might also geofence tricky roads

By Uber I really mean driver controlled hailing service.

You’ve clearly picked your side and I’m not here to convince you.

I’ll take my chances with slightly buggy but ultimately timid driverless vehicles, over often sleepless and distracted drivers.

I agree on public transport and cycling infrastructure. I don’t own a car and rarely use cabs. That said, I’d rather get in an autonomous vehicle than an uber.

I think they will will replace Uber in London and black cabs will stick around as a premium option/ tourist experience.

Interesting that you talk about failure rather than safety. Is that because Waymo failure normally means slightly comical if a bit frustrating freeze, which isn’t particularly dangerous? How many people have been seriously injured or killed in an incident involving a Waymo?
