BlueSky reboot. Needed to purge my feed from being almost entirely polemical American politics. (Note: NOT apolitical, but need a respite.) Like: food, linguistics, metal music, mental health, giallo films. 🏳‍🌈🏴🚩
Stephenson 2-18 is the largest known star in our galaxy. It is over 2,000 times bigger than our own sun. If it were the distance away from us that the sun is, and you looked at it, you would die immediately from being annihilated with radiation. I like science.

I used to work on a farm. We raised chickens. I think about 84 We did not breed them but every once a hen laid a viable egg. If you're not familiar with chickens, hens will lay eggs constantly and mostly they are infertile. Those are what some of us eat.

All heavy elements can only be formed through supernova. And some of the heaviest can only be formed through extreme supernova. Touch your arm, your elements are the product of massive stellar explosions. You and I are literally the product of massive stars exploding. I think that's cool.

In billions of years the sun will expand into a red giant and may likely grow so large as to consume the Earth itself. So leave your troubles aside. Pet cute dogs, get a tattoo, and buy the M&M's at the checkout lane.

Pluto is not a planet. Because it has not cleared it's orbit of refuse. To be a planet you have to have so much gravity that you scoop up all the random bullshit in your orbit. Pluto does not do that. I was broken in August of 2006 when it was declassified. I died that day.

My sister was almost as obsessed as I was. I was obsessed with Teela.

Don't talk about the conditions of your trial. If a judge has to tell you this, then you need a lawyer.

I was instantly hooked on JRPG's as a kid, and none more than Final Fantasy IV. And I was obsessed with Rydia. In like, I didn't have a crush on her (well, maybe sort of.) I didn't want to date her, I wanted to *BE* her. I still kind of do.

I've never been an anime kid. Even though I feel I ought to be. I like Studio Ghibli movies. But the only series I ever really got into was Serial Experiments Lain. Back in 1999 I even cut my hair asymmetrically like hers.

If every point of light coming to us was a galaxy, we are looking at a few hundred of billion of stars in our galaxy. How many stars are in our galaxy? Loosely on average 2,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

A firefly produces about .0006 solar luminosities. The average output of our galaxy is 200 billion roughly, probably a lot more. So the brightness of our galaxy is about, 2,000,000,000,000,000 fireflies.

A gamma ray burst happens when a really big star explodes. And the actual brightness of its nova can become so large that it eclipses the very light of our galaxy. More than billions of suns. Billions.

I love Beyond Horizons, and especially this newest about how if you travel to Mars for any length, you can never come back. Your bones will lose so much mass that they will break if you trip on a curb. Your brain matter will disintegrate. Your heart will no longer know how to pump blood.

Japan makes so many great movies. I don't particularly care for their famous output of anime, and if you're honest, hentai. But Japan's cinema is so huge. I could geek out with you for days about Ozu. And I've not yet mentioned the movie I watched with my dad that MADE me a film geek: Seven Samurai

J-horror on the other hand though, I am an obsessive fan. Humble brag, even before the Ring came out, and I don't mean the unnecessary American revision release, I was a fan. I think my first Japanese horror film obsession I had was Onibaba. Which you need to watch if you haven't already.

Just came home from the corner store, where I got exactly the perfect gift for Christmas: friendly joking around with an older and very boisterous black woman. She called me "honey bear" and said she wanted to ask me out. Okay! You and me, baby

Fuckiing A. Picking up an evading arrest charge because you didn't want to pay the most minimal speeding ticket. Five squad cars at the scene. I get it, "fuck the police." But they are still police and they have vehicles, tasers, and guns. Think smart.

May he be eternal in our memory. I fucking love Humphrey Bogart. Angels With Dirty Faces, They Drive By Night, The Big Sleep, and obviously Casablanca. All so good. ❤️
