Absolutely gorgeous to be greeted by a mass of oxeye daisies every time I step out the back door. Huge plants growing from the edge of the concrete..would it look better weeded and bare? I don't think so. Let things grow!

I'm really getting into British artisan cheese. Especially paired with special condiments. Snowdrop by Cote Hill was Supreme Champion at the British cheese awards last year.

A day surrounded only by lovely things - it's peony season! I'm ensconced on the sofa, spiced carrot and lovage soup bubbling on the hob.

Its a horrendous time in the UK for anyone who cares about biodiversity. The Planning & infrastructure bill looms like disaster over us. Spending much time in my garden observing the life all around me

A beautiful day monitoring Field Fleawort on Dunstable Downs and learning more about the species from a researcher who joined me. Two colonies of 33 and 53 rosettes found.

Everything is very bleak in the world folks but I'm settling into my new garden. Yes the pond needs some work!

I cooked oxtail stew overnight in the slow cooker. The meat was falling off the bones and I added some dark chocolate for good measure. Indescribably good to come home to dumplings and stew after a long walk in the freezing cold this evening 🐕

More pics of (some of) Ric's skull collection. I am so looking forward to starting my own (and perusing back issues of Shropshire Mammal News!) @skull-bloke.bsky.social

Having a blast with the Mammal Society skull and bone identification course this weekend in Shropshire. Here's a weasel skull (M.nivalis) passing through one of my rings.

The enclosures are very large (zoom in to see some bears). I didn't see any wolves as they didn't want to be seen- which is absolutely fine- animal welfare first.

Arrived in the Black Forest, accidentally truffled out a room where a mycology session had been in progress. They were looking for a rare Cortinarius sp. So many amazing specimens!

The absolute joy of realising that past me (more organised, a few trips ago) put painkillers in a pocket in the suitcase 🙏🏻 All useful shops are shut on Sundays in southern Germany! But they will make you a hot lemon and honey in the pub.
