Adding color in oils, using my digital sketch for reference. I call this the “ugly phase” because it’s all first passes and none of the fun refined details (yet)

It’s taken me a while to settle into a process for my paintings, but when I have to nail down a likeness I really like this approach because the drawing and underpainting do a lot of heavy lifting for the final piece
