In the end, it's effectively an anti-war series. For proof, look no further than Snake Eyes' letter to the son of Fred/Wade, the new cobra recruit in the previous thread piece above. Fred eventually saw Cobra for what they were and left with his family for a better life.

... which made them ripe for indoctrination in a terrorist organization like Cobra. At the time, it was a staggering perspective to consider in my young mind and I've never forgotten it.

...but also how our veterans were discarded after the war…

There are so many good stories in the early G.I. Joe run, but one that really cemented it for me was Issue #43. Hama wrote something that not only touched on the horrors of the Vietnam conflict…
