I don't like saying it because there are all kinds of negative associations to the term "Bipolar".
We're always lying, we're inconsistent and unreliable, we have poor hygiene and unlike other mental illnesses, we can actually hurt people, say and do harmful things, we’re incredibly selfish even though we do things that appear unreservedly generous – and for no reason. And we don’t even know the who what when where or why of hurting people. Even though we’re repeatedly told. We sincerely believe we're the ones under attack.
I understand the denial. Because interpreting what goes on with my thoughts is probably more challenging that explaining them. []
And how come I don't know where I live, or my number or the difference between break and lunch or what day it is or if it's winter or summer? Why am I wearing just a hoodie when it's -40 c outside?
The Always Answer: Wasn't 'thinking'.
I can't even tell you where these thoughts and actions come from or why they're there. I just know because when I say things out loud someone will either tell me that it doesn't make sense or just [] slowly walk away. And some people attribute it to some kind of weird fifth sense or heightened intelligence. Like it makes me special.
I’m telling you now. It is not. Understand? Because it's not “just” a mood disorder. And we'll say anything to get out of our diagnosis. Even while medicated. Because there’s a lot of shame associated with the word "Bipolar".
It’s when we have moments of lucidity (which Kanye probably hasn't had in a long time) that we [] feel shame for the things we did and said when we were not Lucid. And at that time, we’re warned not to ‘feel ashamed’. But we remember, right?
There's no cure. There's only treatment. Even the treatment is inconsistent. The suicide rate for people with Bipolar is 60% or higher.
