To get that angry, you have to cherry-pick, but the cherries exist, including ambiguous/aggressive clickbaity headlines for Some Article. There's a lot of Some Articles and Think Pieces, and it's not like there's a feminist licensing board to tell people some of them don't count.

I think a lot of what people want from the post-apocalypse is to have a world where there's only a couple dozen people, and ten miles from your house is Here Be Dragons. So they skip to the little toy world to play in without reminding you of how much you'd have to lose in the switch.

There's some joke here about third places and social atomization.

Without a forum or thread, or your 'friends', or a small chat group, the feed is a one-dimensional list of short statements from the service at large. No matter who's on the service, I think that drives people to make their comments into Official Proclamations.

I definitely remember the earliest I heard of nutella it was being framed as vaguely healthy, or at least equivalent to peanut butter. I looked at a package to see what it was, and it was like oh, it's hazelnut flavored chocolate.

I was on an airplane a year ago, and I was surprised how many big buildings have panels on them now. It isn't most of them, but it's not rare.

Gender stuff still gets framed pretty frequently as inviting heroic individuals to defy categories. But also, categories explode out of people's chests like alien. People try to wrangle with gender, but they tend to keep selling it (or meaning it) as an attempt to uproot it completely.

Tiktok skeeves me out because it starts playing the video immediately, and they know exactly how many ms I watched. With youtube, I can see a thumbnail, and even if I feel its fucking fishhook in my brain, I can take a second and pull it out without them knowing exactly what I was looking at.

I think you could do a lot of good with abstract/technical rules on the format of the internet, like with infinite scrolling, hall-of-mirrors personal feeds where no one sees the same thing, etc. Difficult to do it 'accurately', though.
