'Poker? But isn't that gambling?!'

'Not the way I play it.'
I disagree, but anyway that's really not the point. The point is - we don't need to be starting fights with anyone except the fascists taking over the country.

Next plan: corner the market on buggy whips!

How many wars are they going to start to provide distractions? 'People are starting to talk about Epstein again! Quick - invade Canada!'

Yeah, I know. My clumsy way of agreeing with you.

You pretty much answered your own question.

Great article. One quibble: this analysis assumes that when the US plans to topple Maduro, it cares even a bit about the costs in blood and treasure. This administration will bear any costs in Venezuelan and American lives, as long as certain individuals walk away with billions in their pockets.

So if immigrants transform their new country to be more like their homeland cultures, and given all the European folks who came here in the 19th and 20th centuries, why don't we have a solid social safety net, universal healthcare, and government-supported education?

Does anyone else find this turn extremely suspicious?

Obvious to me that the tariffs were partially meant to keep money flowing in when they extended tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations. (Money needed for ballrooms, marble, gold, corporate jets, golf holidays, goon squads, etc.)
Cut progressive income taxes, and increase regressive sales taxes.

I'm having a really hard time reconciling the fact that the Texas ICE shooter obviously targeted detainees with the statements of all 'authorities' that the shooter was 'anti-ICE.' He shot at the detainees, not at ICE agents. There's something very fishy in the official declarations re: motivation.

I agree. His approval won't go much lower; it's bouncing off the roof set by the hard-core, cultish, red-hat-wearing traitors. And that cohort is completely insulated from what's going on by their limited exposure to non-propaganda ('real') information and by their long- and deeply-held grievances.

Seems to me that the right wing's efforts to
- ramp up gun ownership,
- loosen gun regulations,
- reduce mental health and local law enforcement resources, and then
- turn up the vitriol and fan hatred for political opponents

is not a great long-term strategy.

Jus' sayin'

As someone else on here commented: this is a small dick move.

It's awful and needs to be stopped, but it's not 'genocide.'

If it was genocide, there'd be way more than ~70,000 Gazans dead. (Btw, that number includes tens of thousands of Hamas fighters.) Israel has the military capability to kill hundreds of thousands, if not millions.
