Liberal arts college mathematics instructor, avid consumer of "history dad" books, maker of mediocre model ships, planes, and spacecraft. Wife and kids (correctly) think I'm extremely boring.
That funky double smokestack design is interesting.

I'd recommend either the 2 part epoxy or tamiya liquid cement. The tamiya will sort of weld the plastic together but might still not be strong enough. That kit is sadly notorious for this.

Those beautiful blue & green first Okudagrams on the A's bridge are my favorite version of the refit bridge. (I also love all of the other things you did.) Thank you for checking those messages that day!

Just getting started with the Beagle. Set of blocks and rope being delivered tomorrow and this is my first real rigged ship. Wish me luck!

My (admittedly naive) view is that the sportsbooks are speed running the Big Finance evolution from "we help match up folks will different views on the economy or long/short terms needs" to "we create complicated structures designed to fail and convince you to buy in while we take the other side."

I never "got it" either until my then 10 year old started doing some kids and junior shows at our local community theater. Then, it just clicked for me! We listen all the time in the car and despite living kinda of in the middle of nowhere have seen like 20 touring shows together.

Got my shipping notification this afternoon. Really looking forward to it!

Ordered--but slightly disappointed there is not a special edition so that every time I near the end of a chapter it doesn't automatically play intense strings or a piano tinkling each time I get to a section break 😀

It's almost like a whole war was fought that showed the big gun battleship was obsolete. Too bad he didn't get that from his watching of Victory at Sea.

Yep -- I guess I should read his "The Storm Before the Storm" again.

Such a shame that, like the CV6 Enterprise, she couldn't have been kept as a museum ship. (Love watching these builds. I've got a start at a 1/350 scale US fleet)

I know the "original" redone Beetles were great and popular, but I always thought this was the best Beetle of all.

I like this idea -- I have taught a Sci-Fi class and we have used the story "Swarm" by Bruce Sterling, which has a similar theme: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swarm_(...

Followed for the Trek stuff, like the politics/current events, but *love* your WW2 Naval content!

I've always liked this one -- and like pretty much anything with James Garner!

The "Don't Tread on Me" crowd has certainly been happy with "But go ahead and tread on *that* guy!"

Something I'll never understand -- all the gamer bros who take this sort of stuff seriously, but simp for Elon anyway, just like all of the "honor in the game of golf" guys, including some in my own extended family, who just ignore Trump's cheating. I know not the most important thing, STILL!
