I'm a painter doing what painters do. 🌈
Abandoned Farmhouse, 11/14/2025.

Watercolor.

I painted this on location in central Indiana. The farmer asked if I would show it to his mother, as she had grown up in the house. When she saw it, she cried, and I ended up letting her keep it.

Pencil study.

A sketch from 1989, approximately 8.5" x 11". I created it from a photograph I saw in a magazine, though I’m not sure who the subject is or which magazine it came from.

Ethereal, 11/12/2025.

Ball point pen.

I found this image in one of my journals from the mid-seventies. I vaguely remember working on it while playing Trivial Pursuit with friends at the Red Key Tavern in Indianapolis.

Watercolor markers. Created in 2000.

The view from my upstairs window overlooks the creek, which was an important landmark for the first settlers in the 1800s and later served as a route for the Underground Railroad.

No Arms, 11/10/2025.

Ink drawing created in 2010.

2010 was a difficult year for me. Adhesive capsulitis affected both of my shoulders, and I couldn’t paint—or even put on a belt.

I walked four blocks to the café through six inches of fresh snow and was delighted to see a row of vintage bikes parked outside. Madisonians are true hardcore bikers and devoted coffee drinkers.

Grace Note, 11/2/2025.

An older watercolor digitally enhanced.

A grace note is a musical ornamentation and not essential to the melody. My five thumbs have difficulty playing a grace note.

Follow The Rill To The Cabin, 10/31/2025.

48"x36" Acrylic painting.

The rill led me to the cabin, where I stoked the fire in the wood stove and began baking bread. On the table lay tubes of paint and brushes, waiting to be used. This would be my studio for the next week.
