Robert Christgau has been trying for decades to make us all Mekons fans, but I never quite got on that bus. This TDC makes me begin to see the light—but I'd like their recordings a lot more if Sally Timms took a bigger share of the lead vocals . . .

Willie Collins showed us that documentary in his class on Soul Music back in my undergraduate days, and it left a really strong impression on me. And what a great title!

I agree, he was great in The Doors, right up there with Jamie Fox in Ray. And it was a much harder job to rehabilitate Jim Morrison, whose descent into buffoonery had overshadowed the band's initial blazing talent and originality
