placenames, landscapes, fíanaigecht, strong opinions on how much kale belongs in smoothies (more than what you're thinking) (no, more than that too) (no, more)
At what point of being an adult and/or academic do you unlock the 'can read an eBook without getting a massive headache and retain the information in that eBook' skill and how can I speed up the process of getting there.

A write-up of my talk from last weekend's Highland Archaeology Festival Conference. Featuring some new (and still developing) thoughts on Curetán's late seventh-century bishopric of Ross, and whether we can see a glimpse of it in Adomnán's Life of Columba. All thoughts and feedback welcome!

This blog is more or less a transcript of a talk I gave last weekend at the Highland Archaeology Festival in Inverness. It was a great conference and it was wonderful to meet so many people in person...

i actually love getting welcome emails from companies i would never willingly give my email to because the 'whomst sold my email address THIS time' question is an excellent reminder to go through and delete unused accounts.

Academics are under unrelenting pressure to accept the narrative of the inevitability of #generativeAI & to embrace it in teaching & learning. We resist - because it is ecologically destructive, ethically corrupt, & because it undermines the thinking abilities that make us both human & intelligent.

Re-posting my upcoming lecture details - plus I am now reasonably confident that it will include a newly-identified early medieval source for the Moray Firthlands, which is quite exciting.
I'm giving an online lecture later this month on the eighth-century church in the Moray Firthlands - featuring brand new research on the 'shadowy' St Curetán (fl. 697), among other things. Booking link in the reply.
