Odd that it’s now somebody’s house. Wonder if they hear ghostly bells in the middle of the night?

Bottom shelf looks good to me. Loved The Book of Doors.

Yum. Throw in a cheap tin of (drained) chickpeas for a change in texture. Just stay downwind of anyone you care about for around 48 hours.

By the early 80s they were pretty run down and were used as a filming location in An Englishman Abroad to represent Guy Burgess’s Moscow apparatchik apartment. Subsequently externally renovated.

Same thing on the Elmbank Street side of the King’s Theatre. Leads to an area used as a store off the Upper Circle. I-beam (for block and tackle) was removed during later stonework renovations.

Hmmm. I’m stuck in waiting for them to collect one, any time today between 7am and 8pm. Supposed to email today confirming a time slot, but it’s 2pm and nothing yet….

Absolutely. Single ice cube acts as a breaker in place of a drop of water (especially if cask strength) and makes a neat malt more palatable for the uninitiated. After a while many will naturally drop the ice to get the full experience.

Oh my. Here’s a challenge. Try it neat, glencairn glass, one ice cube. Tiny sip to acclimatise the mouth, then bigger sip. Persevere. Drink a few this way. Over time your palate will develop, and once that happens you’ll know the wonder and glory that is a good single malt.

Crispy or soft?

Remember going to a shop in a Scottish town where the rudeness of the staff was legendary - every one of (many dozens of) reviews online mentioned it. Was so disappointed when they were perfectly pleasant to me.

Korean technology…often fantastic, occasionally puzzling 🤷🏼‍♂️

Weirdly, my sat nav pronounces Milngavie perfectly correctly, but the word south comes out as “sah-wouth”….

To be fair, David McKee was happy to take advertising money for an online clothes retailer….

Great place for a pint back in the day when the pubs shut after lunchtime, if you knew someone who could get you in.

Hardwired older style DVRs separate power and signal type just show black screen. Slightly newer POE ones tend to be black screen but say “No signal” - but not always.

PACT/Equity supporting artist TV day rates outside London are less than national living wage once agent’s fees are deducted. If your agent takes 15% (many take more) you come out with £104.67 for a 10 hour (including 1 hour break) shift - £11.63 an hour gross. And jobs are few and far between….

Loads of this in Scotland. Character walks out a shop in Glasgow then down a street in Edinburgh or Dundee, or Shetland. We even have the circus that is a giant film production currently blocking streets in the city centre with Spiderman filming, supposed to be NYC.

I DNFd a fiction book about my city set late 70s after spotting some jarring errors (my favourite youthful drinking pub given it’s current name and description not the name at the time, etc). Author has gone on to write a number more in the series successfully, so guess it’s just me being pedantic.

Only got to it this year, my favourite so far is The Cracked Mirror by @brookmyre.bsky.social Fabulous twisting of crime genres and a complex denouement, which just about dawned on me a few pages before it was revealed. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

The windows to either side of the image used to have stained glass with the names of their housing estates - Croftfoot, Hillington, Cardonald, and so on, but these have since been removed. There is a (copywrited) image of some of the original window online if you image search Western Heritable.

If memory serves, that was the offices of Western Heritable, a property company who built and rented houses all over the city. Many years ago when looking for our first house we used to go in once a week to get their updated “for sale” list.
