April 29, 1923: The first movie short from the Hal Roach studio to star Stan Laurel, "The Noon Whistle," is released. The comic performer will not be paired with Oliver Hardy until 1927. "The Noon Whistle" does, however, feature a future Laurel and Hardy player, James Finlayson.
