Thank you Tom at @stokeybookshop.bsky.social for picking @cbeditions.bsky.social SPENT LIGHT. Your description, "this stupendously strange book", has made my day. Many many thanks🙏🏼. And thanks to Michelle Strange for the photo.

I want to agree with this. Certainly, Starmer's desperate attempts to keep up with the far right are miserable. But the idea that a bad economy is not facilitating this seems incorrect to me. Reading this book only confirms my view:

Meanwhile, in Belgium: "It's captivating to read, slightly hypnotic. The translation seems excellent.... The world: if you think about it for a moment, there's no escaping it. Pawson makes this painfully clear." 🙏🏼Thank you to my Dutch publisher, Koppernik, & translator Lisette Graswinckel.

Seems like a very good moment to educate myself on the eagerly compliant associates, underlings, servants and enforcers of a terrifying regime.

Thanks to my friend, Tristan, for this photo of @cbeditions.bsky.social SPENT LIGHT in Passa Porta bookshop, Brussels. Particular thanks to bookseller Steven for his enthusiastic note! I'm delighted that the English edition is in Belgium as well as the Dutch translation with @koppernik.bsky.social

This dear pigeon died on the Essex edge lands, exhausted from shouting, St George was of Lydda in the province of Syria Palaestina, fools!

I was among the minority on Saturday not to have been arrested for participating in the peaceful sit down protest against genocide & for non-violent direct action. Sign up to join the protest in September 👇🏼 & take inspiration from the photo (I'm on the left halfway up in red keffiyeh & shades!):

Édouard Glissant was born in 1928, as was Andy Warhol. There was one month between them.

Much suffering thanks to these two ghastly men, but at least we can enjoy the astonishing genius that is Guardian cartoonist @martinrowson.bsky.social:

It felt good to be part of a collective protest, surrounding Parliament in red, demanding justice for Palestine, an end to the occupation & the genocide & apartheid, an immediate & full arms embargo on Israel, an immediate end to the bombing of Gaza.

The 27 May is a difficult day for many Angolans. Today is the 48th anniversary of a day which symbolises tragedy & loss for far too many families. It is the subject of my first book, published in 2014 by @ibtauris.bsky.social in English & Tinta da China in Portuguese. May justice & truth prevail!

I so enjoyed last night's Daunt books launch of @grantabooks.bsky.social Absence by Issa Quincy, who I'm linked to via the late Bernie Grant MP! Issa gave a very touching speech. He's a gentle man with a big heart. This is his first novel. Thank you @jasonarthur.bsky.social for my copy!
